FITNESSGRAM and Physical Best
During the month of February, we were working on our basketball skills. Everyone did an excellent job and I saw A LOT of improvement with both the dribbling/ball handling skills and shooting at the basket. Remember we talked about "BEEF" to help us with our form.

During the month of March, we will be starting a fitness unit called FITNESSGRAM and Physical Best. FITNESSGRAM will require assessment in 5 areas. (PACER running test, sit-ups, push-ups, sit and reach flexibility, and weight/body composition) This is part of a new program for New York City. Our school is very lucky, because IS 93 was one of the few schools chosen to be a "test school" for this program. Next year, every school throughout all of New York City will be participating in this program. This gives our students an advantage, because they will already know all about FITNESSGRAM and Physical Best while the other schools are just beginning to learn about it. The goal of this program is to educate students on what their personal fitness level is, and how to improve their own fitness level. By next year, this program will occur once in the fall and once in the spring. Students will be receiving confidential reports in the mail that will tell them all about their personal fitness level and their performance in each of the test areas. The results of this report (your fitness level) will not count against you as a grade, it is just to let you know where you stand and how to improve. However, you will still be graded on your participation, effort, and conduct in class.
