Jump Rope For Heart

Our "Jump Rope For Heart" fundraiser has drawn to a close, and our students did an excellent job. We managed to raise over seven hundred dollars for the American Heart Association, and our school will be receiving 13 MORE free jump ropes! (In addition to the gym equipment already given to our school from the American Heart Association.)

Our students vs. teachers jump rope competition was also a success. The students and teachers participated in a hula hoop competition, individual jump rope, long jump rope, and double dutch competitions. Everyone did an excellent job, and in the end, the students won the competition.

Our participating teachers were:
Ms. Leopardi
Ms. Kraker
Ms. Barunas
Mrs. Baskies
Mrs. O'Gorman

Thanks to everyone involved in our fundraiser and competition - you did an amazing job!! :)

This contest will include individual jump rope activities, hula hoops, and group jump rope activities (long rope and double dutch). It will be taking place in the gym at 7:15 am. In order to enter the competition, students need to donate $5 to the American Heart Association Jump Rope For Heart fundraiser. All money must be in by Wednesday at the latest. Hope to see you all there!

Spring update :)

The girls at IS93 completed our fitness unit and they all did a FANTASTIC job. We wrapped up the FITNESSGRAM fitness testing in early April, and we have spent the last few weeks learning about the importance of exercise and fitness. The girls exercised at 8 different stations in the gym, and we monitored our heart rates. We also discussed the importance of raising our heart rates with physical activity for at least 15 minutes, 3 days a week.

This week we are starting a unit on badminton. So far, I have seen the girls demonstrate a lot of enthusiasm as well as talent in this activity. Keep up the great work girls!
